Hi,

I would like to create a finite element model of a prosthetic thumb joint secured in bone (the trapezium). There is no need for a detailed material model for the bone, however I do need to capture the approximate behaviour.

Does anyone have any experience with bone material models? Or perhaps know of any good references?

Thanks in advance.

J

Bone can be modeled as transversely isotropic. You can get the mechanical properties from McCalden, et al JBJS 75A, 1193-1205 or Reilly, et al J Biomechanics 8, 393-405.

Star for ZubaJ, although if I'm correct in assuming I can see your desk from mine I might have a conflict of interest :)
