Books for Chem Engineers

Hello All,

can someone advise the books for the chem Engineers (not like Crane, GPSA, Perry) where it's good to read of the process design and resolving of the daily plant problems.

Norm Lieberman is one author whose books gets into troubleshooting quite a range of process problems.

"Rule of Thumb for Chemical Engineers" by Carl Branan (Gulf Publishing)is a good reference. It's good for quick calculations, but you should still refer to more detailed references for critical work.

HZ Kister, "Distillation Design", McGraw-Hill, 1992. HZ
Kister, "Distillation Operation", McGraw-Hill. Especially Distillation Operation is an excellent book for troubleshooting distillation columns.

I've had fairly good experience with these from a design aspect even to the point of finding some example problems that were exactly what I was involved with. Both give step by step methods for design which maybe you could use in a troubleshooting way.

"Applied Process Design for Chemical and Petrochemical Plants", volumes 1 - 3, Ernest E. Ludwig, Gulf Publishing
These books cover most unit .

"Process Heat Transfer", Donald Q. Kern, McGraw-Hill
This book focuses on heat transfer and exchanger .

A word of caution though, be sure you check the math when looking over any example problem.

If you are interested in the pertroleum refining, this book
can be recommended;

"Petroleum Refining; Crude Oil, Petroleum products, Process
flowsheets" edited by Jean Pierre Wauquier(IFP)

This book covers the very upfront of the petroleum refining.

If you'd like to have more general information on refining processes, then take look at "Handbook of petroleum refining processes" edited by Robert A. Meyers.
