Temporary structures in Construction is helpful if you deal with the temporary structures and construction devices side at all.

Otherwise, shadow your super as much as you can without being annoying.

The name is a long story -- just call me Lo.

You may want to get a copy of "Principles and Practices of Commercial Construction" by Woods, Andres and Smith... maybe a little more intermediate than beginning, but it's a good, easy read and 'packed' with information. I've actually read it, and, it's good. Also loaned it to about a dozen people so far. I've also recommended it to a person that lectures in construction at a local community college.

I guess I need to update my construction dictionary because I do not know or find the meaning of " freeh site engineers"

Thanks all appreciate it.
@chicopee, it's fresh* if you don't know any books then just don't comment here.

dik...very nice of you! Thanks

Ron:
I thought it was a very good book.

insajn - lighten up. I sense Chicopee was just being facetious. [lol]

Thanks, Dik. Now editing the next edition

Ron,

Does "Principles and Practices of Commercial Construction" include topics on Special Inspections, such as welding inspections, bolt torque, NDT, etc? These are my weakest areas when preparing materials testing and inspection proposals.

jmcc3265...it does not include special inspections....that's a great suggestion and I still have time to put in the next edition!

It does includes some welding, bolting and NDT....but none are covered extensively....again....something I will consider in the next edition.

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.

...and a smattering of concrete testing.

For site engineering and development, try Land Development Handbook, Planning, Engineering, and Surveying, Dewberry & Davis, 1996, McGraw-Hill.
For construction engineering, try Temporary Structures in Construction, 3rd Edition, Roberty T. Ratay, 2012, McGraw-Hill. I am co-author of Chapter 7 but I am NOT selling the book and do NOT receive any profits. I bought copies of the book cheaper from Amazon than the author's price for which M-H was willing to sell it to me.
