Dear all,

In the end I have managed to persuade my boss to buy some good information about piping systems, but unfortunately I can just buy one or two books (money,money,money..as always)

I am looking for a real good book that covers piping systems with pumps, in areas like system design, pump selection, valves location and type, head loss etc..

I know is almost impossibble to include all these topics in only one "perfect" book but I am just trying..

I am not interested in very deep theory about pumps design or materials of valves, as that is a question we normally let vendor to recommend because his greater experience.

Please, have you ever met the "bible" of this topics?

Thanks lot and regards

At the very least, put Crane's Technical Paper 201 on your list. It has a lot of good general information and it's cheap!

A very good reference is Marks Handbook - if you have good eyes.

Also something I bought and have found useful is Lindeburg's "Mechanical Engineering Reference Manual for the PE Exam". Patricia Lougheed

ISBN: 1894038541

A comprehensive book on the application of B31.3. Topics include pressure design of piping components, flexibility analysis, limitations, materials, fabrication, inspection, category M service, and high pressure systems. The book is well written and easy to read.
Design of Piping Systems
by: M. W. Kellogg Co.
ISBN: 0471467952

Though somewhat dated, a great book on the basics of piping systems and their design. This text includes many "hand methods," very useful for verifying today's computer-generated results.
Fiberglass Pipe Handbook
by: Plastics Institute
ISBN: 9991353283

Details the basic characteristics and behavior of FRP piping systems.
Piping and Pipe Support Systems
by: Paul R. Smith & Thomas J. Van Laan
(Thomas Van Laan is president of COADE, Inc.)
ISBN: 0070589313

An excellent text targeted toward the design of piping systems and the proper implementation of the B31 piping codes. Topics discussed include codes & standards, pipe stress requirements, desing loads, supports, and computation methods.
Piping Handbook

If I had to rely on just one book I think I would choose "Piping Handbook" edited by Mohinder Nayyar. Published by McGraw Hill. It includes discussion of just about every topic you might need.

I would recommend Nayyar's book as a piping handbook.

You should read the response from John Breen in this thread:

roseda, Nope, you can't by it in the UK (Crane Tech Paper 410), but you can order it from Crane's Website. ther is also a CD version.

carletes, In addition to the the Piping Handbook by Nayyar, another good text is the Cameron Hydraulic Data by Ingersoll Rand, Compressed Air Data book also by Ingersoll Rand. For ductile iron work, the Clow Manual No. 82 is excellent. Perry's Chemical Engineers' Handbook is excellent, The Clay Pipe Engineering Manual by the National Clay Pipe Institute is good. Also, any of the ASME/ANSI Standards covering piping are tops. In fact these are the guidlines for most specifications and standards. This is just a short list.

Hope it helps.

Suggest you should be able to get it from Crane Valves in Ipswich! Sharing knowledge is a way to immortality

A handy old book which may be out of print is "Basics of Steam Utilization". Very practical and well illustrated for low pressure steam applications. J. Alton Cox
