In this model I have given shear displacement. Boundary condition (BC) D is 0.5 mm displacement in X direction, BC B is 0.5 mm displacement in Z direction. BC A is displacement constraint in Z direction, BC C displacement constraint in X direction. What should be the BC for Y direction faces? I want to calculate reaction force from the nonzero shear displacement which I have given because I want to calculate shear modulus.

Boundary conditions must be sufficient to ensure the model remains in equilibrium for all externally applied loads.

(BC) A and (BC) C cannot constrain rotation about the Z and X axes respectively, unless they are fixed against rotation.

The support conditions shown below provide boundary conditions which ensure equilibrium, regardless of the direction of applied forces. There are numerous other possibilities.

Finally, if you measure displacement of a model at various points, you cannot distinguish between shear displacement and bending or axial displacement, so it is not possible to calculate the shear modulus from such measurements.

I don't trust that site, hajjy. Can you summarize what it says?

I found the handbook on the internet, with the following warning:

To quote from this book would be a violation of Copyright Act of 1976, so I won't do that. In any event, it is quite clear that Rajnan07 (the OP) is posing a question which is impossible to answer. The boundary conditions are not sufficient to ensure equilibrium and shearing deformation at any given point cannot be established by measurement or by calculation.
