Hello,

I analyze a part with rigid (fixed in all 6 dof) boundary conditions. But in reality, there will be some translational movement(3 directions), say around 1 mm. Is it possible to simulate this condition. How to specify. My solver is abaqus.

Recommended for you

Use directional springs with low stiffness along the direction of motion until the 1mm is reached and then a much higher stiffness. This can be done with a curve truss element if Abaqus' spring element doesn't allow non-linear properties. (Sorry, not familiar with Abaqus).

If you are doing a linear analysis, you may be able to use a gap element.

If you are doing non-linear analysis, you can use some type of impact plane or set up a "wall" for the part to contact when it moves 1mm.

I'm sure there are a couple of other options...but this is what comes off the top of my head.

Use Abaqus's connector elements. There is a preassembled property for a bushing - you can define linear/nonlinear properties for just about everything you can imagine (elasticity, plasticity, damping, failure, stop, lock, damage...)
