does anybody have a method of calculating stresses in pressure vessel shells due to weight loaded brackets such as structural brackets. I know about the Bednar and Megyesy methods tks but they dont address brackets which have a A/B ratio outside the limits of 1.5 or between 1/2 and 2 respectively...

Bednar has line loads on a shell that can be used with brackets.

Also, Blodgett,"Design of welded structures " has a section on bracket loads on a shell.

As mentioned by Tankman650

Design of Weldments by Omer Blodgett
This is a very handy and outstanding book and doesn't cost much ($12.50). 500 hardcover pages of formulas and diagrams

Any pressure vessel design program will do a good job.

Don’t design too close to the minimum as someone is already planning to impose higher loads than your design.

thanks UNCLESYD.....I got all fired up to buy this on their web page until I found out it was to cost me $71.0 in shipping to get the $12.50 book !!!!! then I convert to $Australian makes it ~$170!! ouch!

Aybee,
Check some of you technical book suppliers in Australia. In the US it's carried by several. Lincoln should also have a represenetive there.
I know about the shipping to and from Australia, I've purchased several fishing reels from Alvey. Used the slowest method.

thanks Unclesyd, I have their Arc Welding handbook ..intend to call their Oz rep...I can tell you are a man of sound judgement if you bought Alvey reels..Aybee
