I have to show a braking motor on a single line diagram and I don't know and can't find any symbols that represent a braking motor.

The motor is an induction machine, 600V, 3-phase, across the line start, reversing, with a mechanical brake, from the way I understand it is that there is a coil that is energized which releases the brake when the motor is asked to start, when power is removed from the motor the coil is de-energized and the brake is applied.

If someone has a symbol and could provide me with a little sketch that would be great.

Thanks
Hank

Depends on the Brake Motor. Small ones have integral brakes, so as far as I know, there is no special symbol for them. The brake wring is internal to the motor. From an engineering standpoint, the circuit is no different.

If the motor has a separate brake module attached in the field and needs to have separate wiring run to it, I just use a generic coil symbol (because that's what it is) next to the motor with a label that says "Brake Module".

Thanks,

That is how we are currently showing it, made sense to me.

Thank you Keith.
I did notice that the OP wanted a symbol for a SLD, in which case my spider would lose another 7 legs! I vaguely remember borrowing this symbol from one of the motor manufactures literature.
I have been in the electrical Engineering game for over 25 years and spent 7 at college, but browsing this forum, I realise how little I know!
