brass as a sealing surface?

One of our sister companies is experimenting with using red brass (not sure of the exact grade) as a primary static sealing surface for a product continuously submersed in sea water (100-200 ft depth typical). From past lives I recall a patina developing in a short period on other products in these environments that make me question the integrity of the proposed seal but I have no direct experience with this exact combination. Any experience to pass along would be helpful.

Red brass will not be long term stable in seawater. At least not without significant cathodic protection. You would need 70/30 CuNi to have long term corrosion resistance in seawater.

Agree that red brass is unsuitable.
