Broken View in Drawing (ISO) 3

I have a simple drawing of a long wire with a connector on the end.

I would like to have the views broken, so the wire isn't displayed as long. On the standard (orthogonal views) this is easy and works as expected.

On the Iso view, I can either break it horizontally or vertically, but when I do that, the part (facing diagonally) is no longer lined up?

Any way to break a view at a defined angle (not just vertical or horizontal)

See attached image that explains. Top Right image is what I am looking for, but that was cut/paste, not actually created in SW.

Thanks for the help.

You can do it, but you have to just work with the cut lines to where it looks even. Unfortunately it doesn't cut a lot out of view. Break view us mainly used for vertical and horizontal views. I don't know if they made this function better in 2018 or not.

If its that important for you to have that view, you might be better off making a new config in the wire part and cutting out a section and using move\copy body to bring it in closer. Make another config in the assembly and associate that part config to it. Then in your drawing you can use that assembly config in the ISO view... hope that makes sense.

Or you could fake it with two separate clipped views that appear to line up as you want. Not elegant but the viewers won't know the difference.

MDGroup,

Does your 3D view have to be Isometric? How about rotating your part so that the 3D view fits in the window?

Thanks for the great suggestions:

SBaugh, that would work (and I think that might be how I have done some in the past). But, I have a lot or wires to do, and there are already some configurations of different wire lengths. Then I would have to create configurations of the configurations just for the drawing view, which could get messy.

JBoggs, I like that idea and will try it. Just clip everything but the 2 ends and line them up. A little hack, but should do what I am looking for.

Drawoh, some of the cable are 2-3 feet long. I would like to see how each side is terminated. If I don't clip something, you won't be able to see anything on the ends of the wire.

Thanks again.

MDGgroup,

How about you create an isometric view, then crop it. You can create another cropped isometric view from the other end.

I think I tried SW electrical before, and I think it would do exactly what we are looking for. Especially routing wires inside of an assembly. But, I also remember there being a lot of up-front work needed to get it set up (defining all of the different wire sizes/specs, importing all of the connectors and establishing their positioning/mates, ...)

In the long term I think that is the way to go, and I will look into it some more. But in the short term to get drawings out, the old fashioned way will have to do.

Cropping 2 separate views and piecing them together to line up with each other is what I did, and it worked fine. (I think that is what JBoggs recommended, or at least that is how I interpreted his comments)

Thanks.
