Hi All,

we are doing some retrofitting to a vessel manufactured from BS 1501-161 Gr.C material (1959). I think that this material is equivalent in terms of tensile and yield strength to BS 1501-161-430, however, I can't find any literature to confirm this. Can anyone confirm that I may use BS 1501-161-430 as an equivalent to BS 1501-161-Gr.C? Thanks

Firstly there has to be a grade at the end of 161 i.e. 28 (tons/in2) or 430 (MPa) etc followed by A, B or C. As I remember grade A was properties at room temp., grade B was properties at elevated temp., and grade C was impact tested.
