Does anyone know the UTS for BS3602 HFS35?

Recommended for you

K02501 = HFS360 min UTS = 360 MPa
K03006 = HFS410 min UTS = 410 MPa
HFS35 doesn't exist

It is worth mentioning, as you can see below, BS3602 has now been superceded and withdrawn.

Pub Id : BS 3602

Status : Superseded , Withdrawn

Title : Specification for steel pipes and tubes for pressure purposes: carbon and carbon manganese steel with specified elevated temperature properties

Replaced By :
BS EN 10216-2:2002;BS EN 10217-2:2002;BS EN 10217-3:2002;BS EN 10217-5:2002

Sorry to not mention that I would like to know waht for the out of dated material, maybe pre-1975.

BS 3602:1978
HFS 360 UTS 360/500 N/mm2
YS 215 N/mm2 min
Elong 24% min

HFS 410 UTS 410/550 N/mm2
YS 245 N/mm2 min

HFS 460 UTS 460/600 N/mm2
YS 280 N/mm2 min

Hi, Carburize:

Does HFS35 pre-1975 equal to HFS460 in 1978?

I'm not sure - the 1978 designation numbers obviously relate to the minimum UTS in N/mm2

From the 1962 version of the standard:

BS 3602:1962 the tensile test shall show the following properties:

HFS23: 23/30 T/in2
HFS27: 27/35 T/in2
HFS35: 35/43 T/in2

Hope this is useful
Andy

Andy:

Thanks a lot for your information. May I have a copy of this 1962 version (only pages indicated the UTS).

Sorry -

Have been away from my desk for some time. Could be a bit tricky - if you can let me have an email address, I'll scan in the relevant pages and email them to you. There are quite a few pages with the mechanical test results - unlike these days each grade had a page dedcated to it. Let me know precisely what you want.

Andy

Andy:

I just want to know the UTS and the chemical compositions (if possible). Please send to samuel.liu@shaw.ca.

Thanks a lot,

Will do - but I have to do it from home. In the meantime:

HFS23 HFS27 HFS35
C % 0.20 max 0.25 max 0.35 max
Mn % 0.40 - 0.70 0.40 - 0.70 0.70 -1.10
Si % 0.35 max 0.35 max -
S % 0.050 max 0.050 max 0.050 max
P % 0.050 max 0.050 max 0.050 max

St 35 - For thickness 1inch and greater 0.40 %C acceptable

HSS23 HFS27 HFS35

Tensile 23/30 27/35 35/43
Yield min 13.5 16.0 20.0
(T/in2)
Elongation - not less than 700 divided by tensile strength of the test piece.

Will scan the pages relating to the data which also includes properties at elevated temperature.

Regards
Andy
