What is the purpose of adding both buchholz relay as well as pressure relief device on distribution transformers? Both relays operate due to the production of gases. Is the only purpose of PRD to release the high pressure oil? Thanks

A pressure relief device is not a relay and releases the pressure on the transformer case.
The Buchholz detects the presents of gas.

A Buchholz relay can only be used on a conservator-type transformer. They have a gas-collecting element which is wired as an alarm and a surge-operated element which is wired as a trip. The PRD can be used on any oil-filled transformer design and is primarily a relief valve intended to prevent tank rupture and normally has an auxiliary switch wired as a trip.
