Buckling due to residual stresses

I am modelling a thin plate-like structure which is statically loaded and deforms plastically. I then assume the load is taken off and Abaqus shows me the (expected) residual stresses. Now I would like to know if and how the structure buckles due to these residual stresses. How should I go about this?

Include NLGEOM.

Tata but not yet tara

I am also looking into the area of work. You could model your materials as elastic-plastic, run a load step and relax step (repeat as many times as required), then assess the stresses.

I look forward to input from others on this.

All the best

Have you tried the RIKS solver? I haven't used ABAQUS in a while, but I seem to remember that it handles instabilities well.

Thanks for the answers so far.

I am rather new to Abaqus, so I don't know what that means to include RISK or NLGEOM (click on where?)

What I did so far is applying the load and in the next load step releasing it.

So what should I do to check for buckling?

Rocketeer3k ...
