Whats a good check for a beam 21" D x 4" W that is 16' span. I feel that some sort of buckling check should be done?

Roark's Formulas for Stress and Strain includes a design case for thin beams (Case 11, Table 34, P. 544 in the 5th Edition). Not sure how you'd apply to concrete.

These are precast lintels supporting brick veneer. So the top will be restrained by tiebacks similar to brick.

Not alot of load either, about 4 feet of brick

The problem for these will be handling. I found an article in ACI recently on this topic. That is on a different computer or I would include a snip of the abstract.

they check for handling, Usually they rotate and lift from the top 4 pick points on these long ones.

If you are tied back to a back-up wall then buckling shouldn't really be a problem right?

ACI, for concrete beams, used to have a maximum span for beams at 50 x beam width.

@ JAE, I am thinking that, would restrained at the very top. @ 50x width, I am ok.

Thanks

4pt lift... It does not seem you have a problem lifting or in-situ.
