Hello folks,
I am working on some experimental stuff of my own and need a pressure vessel to run detonation experiments within. I am attempting to take the experiments into a pressure range that is typically not addressed and in light of that, am very concerned about pressure conditions of overdriven detonation waves.
My question is this. With a thick wall vessel, when yield strength has been reached at the inside of the vessel, how does the rest of the vessel react to the plastic deformation? I am running calculations at 90mpa in Ri .5cm, Ro 3cm 316L tube and seeing a factor of safety for Von Mises yielding at .9. I'm going to yield. The exterior of my pipe on the other hand is at much lower stress conditions, this is still within plastic and significantly less than ultimate strength. So, just a half a mm beyond the inner surface, my SF is above 1.
How does a thick wall vessel react to cyclic loading past elastic deformation? Will there be strain hardening?
Can anyone point me to some good literature to read. I'd like to understand this better before I start building a potential explosion hazard in my garage.
