I use CAD 2005 to create site development plans. I do all of my work in Model Space. I utilize viewports on my drawings to shown only the information that I want to show.

A problem that I am encountering is Model space gets very busy with all of the information being shown. Is there a way to deal with Model space getting to clogged with information?

Create a Layout Tab (I name mine "work") with a viewport and do your work in there. You can freeze/thaw layers without affecting the other viewports.

I guess that would work but sometimes I cant add new information when working in model space through a viewport. In particular cutting and pasting soemtimes does not work.

I have the same problem, our drawings aways seem to end up a mess in model space.

I like to use real dark screen colors for background info like existing surveys, topos, and plats. Dividing linework up into X-refs that can be selectively loaded and unloaded as needed has worked well for me too. Setting up layer filters also helps.

I don't quite understand, why can't you add new info? Essentially you are working in model space, just looking through a viewport. I've worked on site development plans using this method for years and have never had a problem with entering data or copy/paste in a viewport. Could you explain what info you can't enter, or what problems you have with cut/paste?

With a couple of custom buttons or keyboard commands you can manage the clutter. You can put the viewports on a layer and freeze/thaw that layer to not see or see the viewport borders. You can change the visibility of the objects insided the viewport by changing a property of the viewport.

Not following putting the viewports on a layer? Cut and pasting while working in Model Space through a viewport does not always work for me.
