Butt weld X threaded 3/4 gate valve available?

Hello All,

Can someone confirm if Butt weld X threaded 3/4 gate valve is available in market? Which company can offer, if yes? I went to boney forge catalog but didn’t find it there.

Mixed connection types for valves are not standard. Can you not butt weld a threaded stub onto the valve? Should you be using threads in a service that requires butt welding?

Thank you for replying. This is for a big piping system that requires multiple of these valves so minimum work should be required (preferably a standard valve). This will be used as drain valve so the threads are needed to plug the other side. Butt welded valve is to follow the standard. I am checking major valve manufacturers catalog to try to find it. Thanks again.

The valve isn't a sufficient plug? If you are concerned about the valve leaking by would it not create a hazardous condition to expect an operator to remove a threaded plug on a valve that may be leaking?

I don’t think BW x THD is common, however socket welded by THD is available (SW X THD) and that will accomplish the same purpose. I use that type on drains/bleeds/vents etc.

And to the other comment about why the threaded plug - that is standard practice for bleeds in the petrochemical industry. If the valve was to be opened for some reason it would not spray hazardous/flammable vapors potentially destroying a plant / many fatalities.

Looks like you might be able to get such a thing from Ladish or Vogt in an extended body style. This would be a pretty odd and non-standard configuration IMO, SW x THRD would be more typical here, or even just a BW valve with a TOE nipple and threaded cap if you absolutely must have BW.

SW introduces some corrosion problems, especially if this is water service.
