Bystronic 4020 - CNC-90 Problem 2

Hello,
I have got a problem with starting CNC 90 software in Bystronic 4020 laser. I hope that someone on this forum could help me with this issue. Hard drive in computer in our machine stopped working. We've lost all data which was on it (I know that there was all parameters for cutting but I'dont know what else was there and if it was important for running machine correctyly). There was a HDD controler failure during system start but before change of the broken hard drive the CNC-90 was starting - it was making a virtual drive partition. (but we wasn't able to upload any new parameters for cutting from database). We replaced the hard drive for a different one which is working (for the first time it was empty and second time we installed MS-DOS 6.22 on it) but the CNC-90 is not starting anymore. I thought that the CNC 90 software is installed on the card inside cabinet and it should start automaticly. Can someone help me with it? what I need check or what should be installed on the hard drive?
The CNC-90 version is P5720C.

Hey, what was your OS version, DOS or Windows 95/98?

I have complete hdd clone of our Bystonic Bytube Machine(win95).

And Software CNC96 P6112C.zip, Software MMC96 P6012.zip

the card inside is referred to as the silicon drive and I think it's assigned letter S. You either have to play around in the bios and tell it to boot from the A drive and if there's no disk in the A drive it will look at the silicon drive. Or you can copy the CNC 90 program from the S drive to the new hard drive. The files you need to call up CNC 90 are NCAT.EXE and RTXDOS.EXE but it's best to just copy everything in the S drive to the C drive. I have the whole CNC rack from a machine like yours set up in my workshop just for this reason. I have parts and whole computers for these machines.

Unfortunately it's MS-DOS, and the software is older than yours - it's CNC90 5720C.

Before installation of new hard drive, the cnc90 was starting even without hard drive. I don't know why but now when I disconnect hdd and tell it to boot from A drive it shows a message:
DRIVE NOT READY ERROR
Insert BOOT diskette in A:
Press any key when ready

Before replacing a hdd it was making a virtual hard drive and the CNC90 was starting.

I've tried to access this S drive as you told but it looks like the system can't see it. Any ideas what should I check? or how to copy this files from S drive? Thanks in advance.

have you tried the bad hard drive in another machine? it's possible the motherboard is going out. Are you in North America?

I'm in Poland. The old hard drive was checked by a specialist company but it is almost completely dead and there is only ~5% chance of recovery data. It looks like the motherboard is ok because new hard drive is working without problems but I don't know how to make the CNC90 run. Maybe Bystronic set motherboard to work correct only with specific models of hard drives and when I put different model then it must be somehow "set/prepared"?

When you put the new hard drive in, did you change any of the bios settings? If you did it could stop the S drive from working as the bios in the S drive takes care of everything. Try setting the bios back to default settings.

If you still have trouble try to find out what motherboard you have, when it boots up it should be displayed briefly, hit the pause key on the AT keyboard to stop on that message and it should be something like MSC-250 or MSC-242. I'll fire up one of the used units I have here and check the bios settings and see if I can extract the S drive data, you can add this to the hard drive if your S drive doesn't work.

Thanks for help. I will try to check it on thursday because now we have holidays in Poland. Unfortunately the hard drive wasn't replaced by me (and I can't be 100% sure) but the guy who did it told me that he did not make any changes in bios settings.

I changed bios settings to default but it doesn't solve the problem. Still got the same message: "..Insert boot diskette in A..." The motherboard is MiTAC MSC-242 BIOS R.109

I have the same unit on my bench right now. When it boots do you see a message S DISK at 0D000H?

I was home today so I did 2 things- I extracted all the files from a silicon drive and I built a floppy disk image that will boot you to CNC 90. The floppy image will work even if you have no silicon drive or hard drive, great for emergencies. With the silicon drive files you should be able to copy them to a dos bootable hard drive and get CNC 90 to start without a silicon drive. email me if you need any of these files. chris@krugtech.com

No, I don't see a message S DISK at 0D000H but I found a photo which I made during system boot when old hard drive stopped working and there I see this message. So it looks like the change of hard drive caused that SDISK dissapeard. I will check again all connections etc. tomorrow at work, maybe there is some problem with COM1 / COM2 ports. Anyway thanks for help. I will email you tomorrow.

it's not the com ports. Reset your bios to defaults, then set it correctly for the floppy drive or drives but do not auto detect the hard drives. How was holiday? All my ancestors are from Poland. I'd like to visit some day.
