Hi all!
In the Aspen Hysys 2006, the component's characterization only has to C30, How can i add components C31-C36? can i user hypothetical component, and how?
thank you!

Hypothetical components are created in the basis manager. There is a tab named "Hypotheticals". Create a blank group and add the hypo's. There is a minimum amount of information required (Typically boiling point and liquid density)needed. Hysys can estimate the remaining properties. However the more information you can give it, the better the estimates will be. The problem is to get the properties of the C31 to C36 components.

Another way to deal with the uncertainty is to use the oil manager and let it calculate some hypotheticals for you.

You got to have a basic understanding of thermodynamics and properties model to do this. But apart from this mikeclay has it right. The oil manager is an extra option that cost a lot of $$ and actually requires more input. It depends on the data that you have.

The hypo components could be with a lower/different mol weight than the components in the component list since these represents a sort of n-alkane representation whereas the hypo components are representing a host of different molecules with average properties and interactions (a somewhat simplified explanation i know)

To broaden a little: If the components has been given to you e.g. from reservoir engineering they may say

C9
C15
C20
...

But this is normally NOT n-alkens but means the average weight for this pseudocomponent equals that of C15

Ther companies may write:
C8-C12
C12-C17
C18-C25
...

Best regards

Morten
