Hi guys,
My boss is looking for cable/conduit scheduling software. What he wants is calculating area of cables under given information such as code and type of cables.
I've tried to find a program that can execute this kind of function online, but I haven't had any luck so far. it's not that easy to find electrical software as a mechanical designer.[wink]
Does anybody use this kind of software? If you have any suggestion, please let me know.

Thanks.

Hi coolray
First of all pulling cables through conduits is not a pure electrical problem. But software from the web is indeed a problem. I have a "software hand made"[mine is in QuickBasic an old Visual Basic] and I didn't change up today. It is not so complicate to do something in Excell, for instant.
The percent of cross section of conduit for conductors [filling factor] may be as per NEC Chapter 9 Table 1.
For about all cable [polymer jacketed=outer surface is plastic] the filling factor is 53% for one cable 31% for two cables and 40% for all number of cable more then 2.
The total cross section of the cables is the sum of all cross section of individual cables.
Aria=cable O.D.^2/4*PI for one cable.
Excell has the possibility to pick up the O.D. of a cable from a list according to code no. So what the Excell has to do is to calculate the sum of the all involved cross sections divided by filling factor [according to number of cables] and to return the equivalent conduit diameter.
The Excell may compare this one with the list of conduits and to pick up the appropriate one.
BTW the "Dolphins software" is excellent, but is more than you need now, I think.
Regards
