Dear All

How do i calculate the required thickness of a Restriction Orifice plate for Higher Pressure drops about 14 kg/sqcm). I have the Miller formula from the Flow measurement engineering Handbook, but I am looking for formulae (Roark's) to calculate thickness if

a) the Plate is to be bolted between flanges
b) the Plate is inserted between Flanges (like standard low pressure Orifice Plates for measurement purposes)

Did you see Miller's comment on his Flow Consultant (software) Engineering Questions web site ?

The first item addressed is 'clamping between flanges' or 'freely supported', as in an orifice fitting.

He says the software uses the "overall restrictive pressure loss (entered differential). Calculated stress (Roark) is then based on actual differential across the plate which is higher than the overall pressure loss."

Hi danw2

Yes. I have seen all the explanations in FAQs. I wanted specifically the formulae being used in the software from Roark's, and the corrections that Miller uses. Kindly clarify.
