Calculating softening capacity

Hi folks!
Has anyone got an equation for calculating the softening capacity of a resin?
I have the capacity of the resin itself (43.7 kgr/cubic foot in Na+ form), the volume/weight of resin, and I'm trying to calculate the amount of water at a specific hardness (as CaCO3) that each softener can soften before requiring a regeneration. (it's eq/l is 2.0, if that helps) Can anybody help?

The easiest way is to download the Dow Caddix software from:

You will need to know a bit more information than you have given in your question. Specifically, the amount of salt applied per cubic foot of resin, whether it is a co-current or countercurrent regeneration system and the service run length.

The CADIX software is temporarily unavailable, so I'm having to do the calculations by "hand", hence the request. I'm trying to estabish the correct (theoretical) intervals between regenerations in order to reduce water usage.
I'll keep trying in the meantime. The product we are using is one of the DOW strong acid resins.

Go to

Then go to the "PRODUCTS" button in the black box across the bottom of the page and click on it.

Then go to the "- Purolite Strong and Weak Acid Cation Exchangers" and click on it.

Then click on "C100". That will give you the Technical Data sheet that includes how to calculate capacity. That is the same type of resin as the Dow resin.

It is important to have the water analysis and to select the salt dose you want to use. You can use the charts and graphs there to determine an appropriate salt dose.
