Calculation Laser cutting Tool Path and length from NX 1

Hallo,

Is there any way by which we can get Laser cutting tool path and length in NX,
I not so any journal which can be used to get desired results.

I think that NX has Laser cutting operations in the Manufacturing application. -Or do we use the Wire EDM operation ?

I guess that there is a function to tell the length of the toolpath.
Else you can measure the summed length by Analysis - Measure length, NX will sum all selected objects.

If you make a tool path in Manufacturing, the length and time are there.
What type of laser cutting? Some can be done with wire EDM, some with variable axis surface contouring.

For me length is required for estimate & costing purpose, Manufacturing is outsourced & supplier will do his programming.

we were planning to give cutting length on sheet metal part drawing, as we give weight, surface area etc....

It's also possible to get that information from the Flat Pattern GEO output file (readable text)
The GEO contain a lot of information;


Max X Y dimension
Gravity point
No of cutting lines
Circumference
single side Surface area
Material Thickness
Number of bends
Bend directions

It also can contain Data like:
Customer name
Project name
Order number
Cutting technology table name
Bend tooling info
Bend positions
Bend directions
Bend angles
Pre-bend angles
etc.

It's just a matter of creating that GEO file and rip the info out and save them to NX part properties.
I do it like this this every day.

If you have the curves or edges that are to be cut with the laser, Analysis > Measure Length may be enough to estimate the cut.

Hi!

Few years ago I build postprocessor for ABB robot, not for laser but for waterjet cutting. Og course, no problem to calc or found toolpath length, I calc for each tool path point thickness under jet, and depend on this value recalc velosity of robot.
