Hi i am a young trainee electrical engineer who has been assigned a task to come up an appropriate way to calibrate the KWH meters for my company's 9 generating sets (10MW each). i am seeking help as to how to go about doing this. Three of the sets utilises Electromechanical KWH meters and the others solid state meters (Vamp 260 PMU).
Thanks

Send the meters to an accredited calibration shop.
Or buy a calibration stand. When you see the price of the calibration equipment, you will have all the economic justification you need to send nine meters out for the foreseeable future.

Bill's got your answer.

We have a calibrator at my company, but that's because we manufacture some power meters. Calibrator prices can be sorta shocking.

Good on ya,

Buy a spare meter, have it calibrated and use it to replace the others while you send them out. You will probably need two meters, one for each or your styles.

What rcwilson said. Check the Form of the meters. On the face of most revenue meters used in North America there is a Form number. This refers to the internal construction of the meter. Meters with the same Form # are generally interchangeable even though one may be electro mechanical and the other electronic. You probably want CL20 for CT and PT use. If the Form numbers are different you may need more than one replacement meter.

Check Megger.com and look at Watthour Test Equipment. They have a variety of test options.
