I am a Chemical E.I.T that is trying to get things together to apply for my PE in California. After reading the requirements for the "Engagement record and reference form", I came across the confusing passage below. If I am understanding correctly, I do not need four letters of reference from licensed chemical PE's, I just need letters of reference from people who are technically qualified to appraise my skills?
If this is the case how do they determine if someone is technically qualified to assess my skills?
A reference for each engagement claimed as qualifying experience is required.
A reference must be a licensed Professional Engineer in the same discipline for which you are applying, except as noted below.
References must be persons who are technically qualified to appraise your skills as an engineer.
NOTE:
Individuals who are applying for licensure as an Electrical Engineer may submit references from licensed Civil
Engineers or from individuals exempt from licensure as an Electrical Engineer, as well as from licensed Electrical Engineers.
Individuals who are applying for licensure as a Mechanical Engineer may submit references from licensed Civil Engineers or from individuals exempt from licensure as a Mechanical Engineer, as well as from licensed Mechanical Engineers.
Individuals who are applying for licensure as in any of the other disciplines of engineering may submit references from anyone who is technically qualified to appraise your skills as an engineer.
