Can 6000 lb fittings be safely used in 7500 psig nitrogen? 1

We have an application where we have a nitrogen design prssure of 7000 psig.

However, commercially available fitting pressure classes seem to be either 3000 or 6000.

What is the real rating of a ANSI Class 6000 fitting?

The rating will depend upon several things.

Design Code

Standard to which the fittings comply. I suspect they are B16.11 fittings as they use the Class 3000, Class 6000 and so forth. They used to be referred to as 3000 lb, etc.

Corrosion allowance.

Is the fitting socket welded or threaded?

If you look at B16.11 table 2 shows the pipe wall thickness equivalent to use to calculate the pressure rating of the fittings. It should be noted that Class 3000 threaded and class 3000 socket welded are not equal. The same goes for Class 6000.
