Can a 5V USB camera module be considered Intrinsically Safe? 1

I have a USB camera module (5MEGAPIXEL USB CAMERA MODULE USB2.0 OMNIVISION OV5640 COLOR CMOS SENSOR 2.1MM LENS
) which has to be mounted in a area where there is constant methanol vapor.

Camera is 5V and can consume arround 200mA. Power is supplied by an Olimex A20 Micro and it limits current on USB port to a maximum of 500mA. Can this arrangement be considered intrinsically safe?

Not unless they are registered approved devices.

Only devices that are tested and approved as such by a registered testing agency may be considered intrinsically safe.

The only exception to that rule are 'simple devices' connected to the protected side a barrier or galvanic isolator. A camera certainly doesn't fit the definition of 'simple device'
