Hello all,

Can countersunk plugs be used on pressure vessels' small bore nozzles?

I can only find ASME B16.14 covering the countersunk plugs but I can't find it in the referenced standards U-3 of ASME Sec VIII, Div. 1. Does this mean it can't be used on a pressure vessel?
B16.14 is referenced in the piping code (b31.3) though.

I saw one vessel with these plugs on the test ports in my plant and I am wondering if it is out of code requirement and should be replaced with a hex plug per B16.11.

Thanks in advance!

You may set the scope of the vessel on the (female) threads of the nozzle and leave the plug outside VIII-1 scope.
