Can Engine be damaged from galvanic corrosion?

I have a 99 Larson boat with a Volvo Penta Stern drive. 1 year ago we found a broken bus-bar from battery, which cause the out-drive to corrode. What should we look for in the engine that could have been damaged by this?

One of the biggest problems with inboard or I/O engine configurations is that it is common to tie all grounds to the engine block. The obvious place to look for corrosion is in the prop or the I/O drive unit. Other places are the places that might remain in contact with the water such as exhaust risers if they are metallic, and any thing that electronic/electrical that is attached to the block/drive. If your boat is bonded, you have a whole other can of worms. I've seen a Lapworth that was in pristine shape, but because it was well bonded, the minerals were sucked our of most of the ribs.
