Can not non-uniformely scale a solid/sheet

i have tried and tried to
give a expansion rate x .016 y .016 and z .023
and it will not do it

tried on a solid no go
tried on sheets no go

exported out sheets as a igs brought them back in NO GO

Please help....

I do injection molding that requires 2 differnet shrinks for the material...

What version of NX are you running?

Using NX 7.5 I had no problem performing a...

Insert -> Offset/Scale -> Scale Body...

...using the 'General' type scale and applying different scale values along the X, y and Z axis.

I always used the scale through the
transform option.

I went ahead and used the Insert -> Offset/Scale -> Scale Body

on a simple solid (support post) and it worked using the scale body

The part i need to shrink was a solid from PRO_E.
tried it on that and it failed. It is a solid

Message told me that I had a face fail.

Do i need to rebuild the solid???

If it is from another system, you could try Heal Geometry since you probably aren't concerned about retaining any parameters.

OK,

Heal didnt work for that part

Went ahead and found the problem area fixed it and
scale body did work gave me my different shrink rates.

The question I have is that this part has been a solid
from the the word go and i used all kinds of
solid functions. NX told me
it was a good solid.

So, why did it find that little face problem that I had to rebuild, only when I used scale body?


it has been a good solid for all fuctions
just not for scale body operation???

Any operation which changes the topology of a body will have limitations/constraints which may or may not apply to other operations or situations. For example, it would be very easy to build a model which I would have no problem performing a scale operation on, but which I couldn't apply a simple offset to. Generally the issues are either faces with small local radii of curvature or models with long thin 'sliver' faces, particularly if these are part of concave areas on your model.

Thats what the problem was on that solid
I had to fix a 3 sided rad at a intersection
of 2 ribs.

This is the first time I have seen this
Forum and it has been a great help..
