can you change the model view of the base view in drafting?

I am wondering once you put in a base view, you can select the model view that it comes in. I am wondering if you can change that. Like in drafting if your view in "back" can you change it to "front", "bottom" etc?

Which version of NX are you using?

In NX6 you can choose which model view to use when you place a 'base' view in drafting (top, right, back, etc, etc).

I interpreted the question as more along the lines of "once you've already placed a base view on your drawing, can you subsequently change the view source" ... and my understanding is that the answer to this question is "No", but I'd be curious to hear otherwise.

Right mouse click on the view, select Style, then select the Orientation tab, and then you can rotate the view to the desired position. It's a little tricky but it works.

I'm wondering why the option Orient View isn't available anymore after placing the base view?
By placing base view you can choose Orient View, and you get your model in a seperate window, turn it like you want and place that view in the drafting.

Okay, I knew of those 2 other ways, but really wanted to know if it was just possible changing the base view. It just seems that would be an easier approach.

while I'm at it, say if you re-orient these views, is there anyway for the views projected off of it change as well along with it? Or do you have to change each projected view as well.

It would be hard to get any easier than placing a new base view with the canned orientation you want. If you need a custom orientation, set it up on the modeling side, save the view and then you can use that as the base view in drafting.

The simple answer is that you have several ways to choose or manipulate the orientation of views BEFORE they are added to the drawing sheet, and NO way to change it afterwards. This is a limitation of the software, but a very reasonable one which I think most of us would support.

On the other hand in master model concept you can at times manipulate the orientation of the modelled component within the drawing assembly to reposition it relative to a predefined view. This may help you in a limited number of circumstances although it is not a technique I would like frequently to have to rely upon, but on occasion you may just get away with it.

As Cowski mentioned projected views are not associative with their base views once that they have been added to the sheet. Section views are dependant upon how the section cut is defined as to some extent are the detail views upon boundary definitions. I think that the sheer complexity involved in re-orienting views as you appear to suggest invites a number of problems that may challenge the drafter's ability to confidently control the results, which is why I don't find myself warming to the idea.
