Hi kormechanical3,

Your message is very difficult to interpret in detail. I understand that you want to have both Windows ME and Windows 2000 on the same system. I assume that you have already established that both can reside on the same disk peacefully. I see that you need expert advice on computers because you don't know that you should not try to format the C drive through the resident OS. I'd advise you to carry the system to a computer shop and explain them what you want and let them do it for you. This is the easiest, cheapest and surest way of getting what you want.

Good luck,

You can try some things:

> During the boot, hit F8 to get you the boot menu and boot into console mode, which is DOS and format from there.

> The installation program should allow you to format the hard driveas part of the installation process.

> Some computers allow you to low-level format the hard drive, which takes a bit of time, but will definitely wipe the drive clean.

Use Fdisk facility provided by many manufacturers .Also I have my doubts if both the systems you mentioned can be operated on one partition of the hard drive. On the other hand Window XP will work perefectly with other forms of Windows

Best of Luck

You do not say if you are using FAT32, NTFS or both. If you are using FAT32 and a single partition then I suggest that you boot from your Windows ME installation CD to a DOS prompt. You may need to press F8 to get a boot menu. Boot to the command prompt (DOS). At this point you should be able to use the FORMAT command to format your C: partition. You are correct in installing Windows ME first, followed by Windows 2000.

If using the FORMAT command after booting from the CD fails you may need to use a low-level utility such as FDISK to remove the original partition from the hard drive and create a new one. The FORMAT command may then be used to format the hard drive.

I most strongly recommend that you DO NOT use the low-level format utility built into the motherboard bios because should the bios not unlock the drive properly to low-level format it the servo guide tracks and defective cluster remapping table may be corrupted or destroyed rendering the hard drive unreliable at best or totally useless at worst (requiring manufacturer recalibration).
