Cannot use construction lines to constrain holes CATIA 1

Hello,
I drew a bunch of holes and constrained them to different lines. However, since I don't actually need the lines and I only need them for the geometric location of the holes, I converted them to construction lines. However, everytime I do that, CATIA says there are issues with my hole sketches. Why can't I convert them to construction lines? Do I have to do the hole thing over again but start with construction lines this time?!

i believe you have one sketch with all those lines, and Holes positions are defined/linked to those lines from the sketch.
When you make those lines as construction they will not be visible from outside the sketch, hence the Holes getting problem.
Just hide the sketch, but if the sketch drive the position of the hole, you'll need those lines as not construction.

I find it very odd how I can't use construction lines to define the geometrical location of something. Isn't that the point of construction lines in a lot of cases?

And if I want to get this machined, would they not think that these lines should also be machined when the receive the .stp file?

you can have construction lines in the hole center point sketch.

your sketch with line would not impact machining.

If I understand correctly, you want to use Sketch.3 to define the centerlines for all the holes, and then add each hole with it's position constrained to the centerlines. Good idea!

Sketch.3 (the centerlines) should have the lines in a NON-construction mode. This will allow you to see and select the center lines when you constraint each hole. Just Hide the sketch after you have all the holes defined.

Another method would be to add centerpoints to the centerline sketch. In this case, you want the points to be NON-construction, but the lines will be Construction. Then you can use the centerpoint to position the hole. (and maybe use a User Pattern?)

I'm not following the "machined" question - what do machined features have to do with the centerlines?
