For a RV, truck, or equipment parking cover, the metal roof deck spans over the roof purlins. The roof purlins span between the roof beams, and the beams cantilever out from the columns forming a ‘T’ shape. If there are more than two sets of beams and columns across the width of the canopy, would you check the unbalanced roof live for the one set of beams and columns? I think that since the roof deck is the only member connecting each set of beams and columns in the transverse direction that I would need to check the unbalance roof live load for the beam cantilevering out from the column, the moment in the column, and the footing. Does this sound correct or am I being too conservative?
