Can't figure out deform tool

I have a deformable part that is a connector as well as the cable coming out of the connector. This entire assembly is made as one part and the cable portion was created using "space reservation" in routing. To use this part the "space reservation" was made to be deformable. Any ideas how to hide or remove the space reservation in the next higher assembly so that the correct routing path can be placed?

Add a new Reference set in the deformable part, or omit the space reservation from the Model reference set in the deformable part?
