Can't Unite Extract Bodies anymore (NX 11)? 3

Well,

Just my luck, I'm just starting to develop training content right when we transferred from NX 10 to NX 11 and, of course, I'm having some issues (4 hours on NX 11).

Besides the usual lack of efficiently for a week or so, that comes with new roll-outs, it seems a strong use-case is disabled, which is Uniting an Extract Body to another Body.

I use this often for creating offsets and steps in irregular surfaces, using solids instead of sheets, e.g. Extract Body -> Offset Face in (some faces) -> Offset Face out (other faces) -> Unite -> Shell.

Works perfectly - please tell me this is still an option :(

Not quite sure what you are trying to accomplish with this but uniting extracted bodies is no problem in NX11

An extracted face is however not a body. And unite/subtract etc only accepts bodies as input. To my knowledge this has never changed.
Faces you can only "unite" with the Sew feature.

Regarding the extract body/unite question, check your selection filter during the unite operation. If it is set to something like "curve" or "datum", then NX won't allow you to select a body object (whether extracted or not).

Hi NutAce,

I'm under the gun at the moment but if you're interested, I can send you a lesson at a later time.
But to quickly elaborate: Extracting a solid, then manipulating that solid, superimposed on top of the source solid, is a way of perfectly and associatively matching, rims and stepped edges on complex, irregular surfaces. Solid body editing can include commands like "General" Pocket (not to be mistaken with regular Pocket) to ensure stepped edges remain Normal to the primary face which creates really clean layering and when you have the base of your shapes completed you can then Unite all solids, add blends and then Shell (examples would be something like a modern dashboard of a car).

But you're right, it appears you can still Unite an extracted body, but from a separate source solid which you can do the fly anyway and not a big deal.

I was hoping to perhaps hear of a setting that might permit what I'm trying to do? Yes, I certain I'm working with solid bodies... BTW, you can combine sheets to solids using the Patch command.

Been on NX 11 now for 8 hours so I'm just experiencing early growing pains.

Thanks for responding.

Hi Cowski,

That is the way to ensure that you're working with a Solid Body, Sheet Body, Datums, etc. I also remind users of this - on a regular bases actually :)

Thanks for the response but no, this is something different entirely (unfortunately).

I tried to narrow down a possible setting in all the usual places, i.e. Modeling Preferences, Customer Defaults but nothing seem to change this behavior.

Thank again

Oh wait!

Sorry I got it - I didn't have the "Fixed at Current Timestamp" setting on my Extract feature.

False alarm - that hasn't been set since the new roll-out...

I'm still however, am unable to use Reattach Sketch - it remains greyed-out.

Is that something anyone would know about?

Sorry for combining questions here.

For your sketch do a command search for reattach sketch while you are in edit mode in the sketch. Doing it the old way by right clicking on the sketch and going to edit parameters does not work for us anymore. It leaves this reattach sketch greyed our for some reason.

SDETERS,

Thank you! Hopefully that's all it is.

Too bad though if the right click option (the only way I typically do it) is permanently disabled?

If so, you would think it would be removed all together.

One more thought, Check the Time Stamp setting on the extract.
