Hello

I am working as Design Engineer for pressure vessels for an overseas assignment. Because of the govt. policies, maximum fabrication has to be done there. I am planning to visit the major fabrication shops for capacity evaluation so that I may redesign some of the vessels according to their capabilities.

Can you people provide me with guidelines/forms that are generally used for such evaluations? I have found some information in Megyesy's book but I need something more detailed and thorough.

Any help will be appreciated.

Regards

look at:
crane lifting capacities
welding certs
manpower levels
current work load/backlog
shipping/transportation capabilities
bending/forming capabilities
materials suppliers
request references for pressure vessels of similar design
QA/QC program
if they are a union shop, ask when their existing contract is due for renewal.

If they outsource rolling or head forming, check on capabilities of their sources as well.

If any work is stainless or other non-carbon, check on capabilities with it.

Blasting/lining/coating facilities.

Automatic or semi-automatic welding capabilities.

Thickness of plate/ welding currently qualified.

Heat treating/ stress relieving capabilities.

Overhead clearance for larger diameters.

Any shipping restrictions for larger items.
