Hi,

I have got a square plate that's deformed due to thermal stress. How can I extract/calculate the curvature or radius of this deformed plate?

output the nodal displacements along several lines in x and y directions. Plot them in Excel. Fit a curve to the points; from that you should be able to work out the radius of curvature.

Cheers for the reply!

Just to be clear, would it be something like this?

You can even export the deformed mesh, import it back and convert to CAD geometry (surface) to do any measurements that you want. In some CAD software because Abaqus is not meant for that.

Or just use the COORD output (nodal coordinates). It can be transformed to a local coordinate system to check the distance between the selected nodes and e.g. the center of curvature.

Very good point indeed @FEA :) I did not think of that. I will try both methods and see which one fits better. Thanks

Just to add, how can one get the "3D mesh to geometry" plugin? I'm using the 2023 Abaqus ver. I have also tried using the Face -> From element faces, but it does not seem to work properly...?

This plug-in can be found in the SIMULIA Community on the DS website.
