I have been getting wheel and floor vibration. So I have had my whhel balancing done. This seems to have cured the steering wheel vibration but the floor vibration is still present. The after affects can still be felt in my legs after i have got out. Please help

If it has been a long time since you changed the shocks on your car, do that. It might not fix the problem, but it might help. The shocks that come standard on most cars are only rated for about 20,000 miles. Most will go a lot longer than that, but people tend not to change them often enough. A bad shock abosorber might allow road vibration to transmit into the frame and as a result into your feet. Also, climb under the car and have a look around. If you see a cracked weld in the floor boards, or a brace or frame piece that is missing a bolt, or has a broken weld, that might be the problem. Also look to see that the exhaust pipe brackets are not loose or broken. While there look at the shocks and springs at each wheel. Make sure nothing is loose or broken. If you see oil or oily dirt all over a shock, is has leaked and gone bad, get it replaced. Good luck!

Road vibration is seldom of a high enough frequency to cause a vibration in your legs to be felt after getting out of the car. In addition to wheel imbalance, there is the possibility of driveline imbalance, or bad u-joints in a driveshaft, especially if you're talking about a rear-wheel-drive vehicle - you didn't say.
Or you could have a defective CV joint if it's a front drive car.
Sounds to me like you need the services of a good mechanic; internet advice will only get you just so far...

You should also check your engine mounts. VW's used to have a common problem of losing the rear engine mount.

Also I once had to use a wire hanger to hold up my exhaust pipe after the rubber one had broken. It worked but transmitted considerable vibration into the floor. Check you exhaust hangers. C. Hugh (
