Hi everyone,

I am looking for a parallel in, serial out latch to provide more inputs for the microcontroller. The one I found is the 74HC165. Do you know if it is possible to cascade few 74HC165s together? I can't find this information on the datasheet.

Thank you for your help!
Thomas

The 74HC165 has a serial-in pin to allow cascading from the Q8 latch output of the preceding stage. This is variously marked "DL" or "S", etc., depending on which manufacturer's data sheet you look at.

Regarding your initial statement that you want provide "more inputs to the microcontroller", is it really SERIAL inputs that you want? Don't you want to make a multiplexer system for lots of parallel inputs?
