Hi experts,

Could some one confirm if the heat number/lot number is mentioned on the subjected valves disc ? Our clint has rejected the valves at site and commented that the valves are rejected because no heat/lot number was found on the disc of gate valves.

Take a look at ASTM A703, General Requirements for Pressure Containing Parts. Para. 17 will give you the marking requirements. Construction codes etc. can also enter into the picture. The A703 requirements (or A985 for investment cast)supersede the material specification requirements if there is a conflict.

Thread No. 408-195861 discusses pressure parts and vessels. It is worth looking at. My opinion is that the component should be traceable regardless of what the specification says, just as a way of covering yourself in the event of a problem.
