I am hoping to submit some samples of pre-cast and forged aluminium components for (electrolytic) Keronite surface treatment, and have been asked to determine the silicon content. Eventually I would cast my own prototypes to an optimum specification, but am using commercially manufactured products for my prototype. Can anyone suggest a simple and inexpensive method to analyse the constituents of the alloy?

This isn't simple, it may cost up to $200 per sample to perform (inexpensive to corporations engaged in commerce, potentially expensive to other people/groups), but this is the technique you should use:

ASTM E 1251 Standard Test Method for Analysis of Aluminum and Aluminum Alloys by Atomic Emission Spectrometry

I should have stated "or equivalent", such as a similar standard from EN, ISO, JIS, etc.

Shop around for a good laboratory. It may cost half that, but I don't know your location, sampling frequency, etc.
