Can compacted graphite iron be welded? And if so is the method the same as welding gray cast iron?

I am finding that no one can answer this. Even specialist cast iron welding shops, they may have welded it and not known
that is was cgi, just a guess.

The suppliers of cast iron welding electrodes lump CGI in with ductile iron.
I think any weld repair, short of the whole part processing described in D Sen's link, risks some cracking in the HAZ, and the CGI reverting locally back to gray iron too.

Is this joining CGI components to create a structural weldment, repair of a structural part, restoration of a crankshaft bearing journal, sealing a leak, or a cosmetic repair?

Its a hole in a component and will likely need a plate to fill it.
Lump CGI and Ductile ? They are not the same, one is nodular and one is not.
