Catalog Modification

I'm creating catalogs for a Catia standard parts library and I am having difficulties modifying them once they are resolved. It would appear that resolution of the Catalog breaks any links back to the original design table and master part. Is there a way I can create a catalog that links to a generative part that can be updated at a later date?
