Hi all
I am trying to synchronize three C18 caterpillar generators with emcp 3.1 control modules by the DKG-707 multi generator set paralleling unit .I choose this paralleling unit because I have used it to synchronize Cummins generators and I do have the controller now. But I haven’t synchronize the caterpillar generator set before and I am clear of the following points
1. Does the ADEM III ECM for C18 engine have an option for adjusting the speed from the speed up/down relay output of the DKG-707 control module?
This is the paragraph from the controller manual about the digital relay output.
“9.18 speed up/down relay output
The DkG-707 is able to control motorized potentiometers through up/down output functions. In order to use up/down functions, corresponding digital output function P_8x0 parameters should be set properly.
If speed up/down outputs are enabled, the master unit will operate in order to adjust itself to the nominal speed defined in program parameter P_A38.
If speed-up or speed-down functions are assigned to digital outputs, then the unit will start to generate speed up/down pulses to control the external speed potentiometer. Thus the analog GOV control output is no more valid.
The minimum pulse width is set through program parameter 9P_A33), the minimum delay between two successive pulses is set through program parameter (P_A34), and the maximum speed pulse width is set though program parameter (P_A39)”

2. If it is possible do we need to have a password or do we need a caterpillar service tool to enable this function on the ECM.
3.i know that the 2300 series Perkins have three option for adjusting the speed (from the pwm input, from the analog dc input and from speed raise and lower input)and i also know that the c18 ECM has a PWM speed adjustment input .does it have another option for speed bias.
Thanks

I don't work on the little ones much, but the C18 normally has a PWM remote speed setting input, in power gen applications uses the CAT speed brick or a Woodward LSM for remote speed reference. The EMCP 3.2/3 uses raise/lower commands via J1939 to the ECM.

To set the allowable speed adjust range in the ECM you'll need CAT ET (computer based service tool). If there is an option for a digital raise/lower input it will be in the configuration menu. With all the different flash files available on these size engines I can't tell you for sure, your best bet is the selling dealer, but depending on where in the world you are that may not be much help.

There are units out there, mostly mixed into older plants that used a CAT speed brick and an MOP driven by either the digital outputs from an existing SPM synchroniser or Basler digital reference unit. It adds pieces but will work if there is no ECM option.

Hope that helps, Mike L.

thanks
i have decided to use the caterpillar analog speed to pwm converter to synchronize the gen_sets.
best regards

Hello Bedane excuse my bad english. im traing to synchronize two cat c18 engine, whit a GCP-30 from Woodward, I have the same throuble whit adjust speed.

can you say me, how solve this throuble, I need a CAT ET (computer based service tool).or only a caterpillar analog speed to pwm converter, to adjust speed.

you will send me wiring schematic por this.

Tanks for all.
