Working in V5, is there any way to duplicate an existing, and loaded assembly and it's components? Like the new from... command. If the components are loaded, the New From... command doesn't work. Tipically i work with a second session of CATIA, and create the new from... there. Any better workflow that I doesn't know?

File > Save Management.

To make less confusing have only the assembly that you want to duplicate open.

Choose file save managent.
The top level assembly should be at the top of the gui window. Give that a new name.
Then go through all the rest of the catproducts and catparts with new names.
Then choose the save at the bottom of the gui window. This will generate all new files with links pointing to new files.
The files do not save until you select save at the bottom.

Another option using save management.
Choose a new folder/directory location to save the top level assembly. Rename the top level assembly and others as/if needed. Then select the propagate directory option. This will then point all the files to the new choosen folder. Then select save at the bottom of the gui window. This is a quick way to duplicate an existing assembly with all new files and links updated.

As far as I know "Save As" operation invoked from any command doesn't assign a new UUID to a document being saved. It's a no-no when working in an assemblies that should include both documents (original and saved with different name).

So I'm afraid a "New from" is the only correct way to do it when using file system. There would be another options if you'd use ENOVIA though.

Still quite silly...

I still have to found the parts of this assembly one by one, and mixed with other assemblies' parts.

And partnumber don't change also!
