I'm trying to open several catia files in Pro-E. I have it them in both .igs and .stp formatts.

I've only been able to open one file. With the rest of them my screen freezes up and the applications show "not responding". Is there a trick to opening thes files??

Any of your experience would be helpful. Thanks all.

1. What version of CATIA are the files from?
2. How large are the files?
3. What version of Pro/ENGINEER are you using?

I am not aware of any tricks and in my experience it is rare for pro E to shows as "not responding". It usually show closes without warning if it encounters something that it does not like.

It should just be a case of changing the file type to *.stp or *.igs and then opening the file.

Can you open the file with another program or ask someone else to open them for you?

I have had several engine assemblies that I could not open, I gave them to another designer with the same spec machine and same release of WF2 and he opened them with no problems at all.

Good luck

Adrian

I import *.step & *.iges files from CATIA v5 with no problem. The files maybe corrupted from the CATIA side.

CATIA V4 does not work well quite often with step. You may have bad step files. Can you get ahold of the original CATIA files?? I usually use a product called 3D-Evolution to open the native CATIA file directly and write out a "flavored" step file for Pro/E. This allows you to clean up the step file before it is written out. I have had better results with this than a direct into Pro process. I feel your pain as I deal with this every day. Like Hydromech said, another machine, get another step from your source, try the Iges, bring it thru a different CAD system.
The definition of stupidity is re-trying the same process and expecting different results (except when dealing with dumb or neutral CAD data). The same process you used on one file will not necessarily work for all neutral files.

Good Luck
