Im designing a fixture for a part that came as a Catia file.
I imported it into solidworks, but can't find the tooling points on the model. I can see them on the drawing, so I know they are in the Catia file, but did I lose them going to solidworks?

I actually imported them from a parasolid x_t, I guess I just thought catia because the drawing references it in its creation.

How were the tooling points created?

Unless they were an actual feature in the model, I doubt they would be in the parasolid.

Could they have been added to the drawing only?

Well, thanks for the quick response. The solidworks help file informs me I cannot import point data from parasolids. I would hope that the model they sent us contains these tooling points.
Am I going to have to ask my manager to ask our contact for a different format, or is there another application I can use to get this data? Is it possible to use another app to open it and then export it as a format that solidworks will read point data from? If I end up asking for another format, which should I ask for?

I know its a lot of newbish questions, but any help is appreciated :D

If there aren't too many tooling points, it might be quicker to just place them manually using the drawing ... if they are dimensioned.

As for which format is best, it depends on the software the model was created in. Parasolid is usually the best.

Well, the tooling points are defined only in the catia model, according to the drawing. Otherwise I would have just added them myself.
In regards to the parasolid format, solidworks help told me it would not import point data from a x_t file. The origonal model was a Catia file, but they did not see fit to send us this model.

Your responses are appreciated.

Iges files can include workplanes and sketch data. Not sure if the .cgr import can include these points upon import.

Format works helps you translate Catia files to SW... maybe that app can help you maintain those points your looking for if they are lost. I would contact them and see if they can help you, or contact your VAR.

Thanks for the advice guys. I got my hand on a supplementary drawing with those points dimensioned and added them myself. My supervisor was gone that day and I did not know that it existed.
