A question for people who know Catia V5 well;

My work provided me with a new work station yesterday of which the spec is shown below. I need the graphical and processor power to run Catia V5. I am however failing to see the upgraded performance I was expecting, for instance multi-instantiations hang even after the models have appeared. Its like the program is still running on a dual core. Do you have any tips so that I can properly configure my machine for Catia V5 to fully take advantage of it ?. Any tips at all would be most gratful. Many thanks.

What version and service pack of Catia are you running?

Win XP64
R20/21, 3DVIA Composer 2012, ST R20
Dell T7400 16GB Ram
Quadro FX 4800 - 1.5GB

Version 5.20, service pack 3. I know this is not the most up to date but others in the team have found some critical bugs in the later service packs so we're sticking with what we believe is most stable and that is service pack 3.

Service pack 7 fixes some critical problems with the assembly update mechanism (constraints too). I had a tonne of performance issues pre SP7. Your employer bought you a machine within the Dassault specs. This does make a difference when they cheap out on the graphics card. As for tweaks, not much you can do as Catia will only use a single core of your processor for most applications. I have found that you need Virtual Ram to be equal to or greater than physical ram. I would like to investigate a SSD with Catia for performance, maybe something for our IT to work on this year.

Derek
